WHAT IS NAMESWITCH, AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
NameSwitch is an innovative online service designed to help newlyweds streamline the name-changing process across various profiles and accounts.
We have mapped the name-changing procedures for over 700 government bodies and companies into our system.
Every year, we assist thousands of couples in navigating this complex process, saving them an average of 14 hours of stop-and-start research, form completion, and letter drafting. We are the only UK-based company that provides this specialised service to couples.
It's important to note that NameSwitch does not directly contact companies on behalf of couples, as we do not hold power of attorney. The responsibility to sign and date the necessary letters and forms lies with the newlyweds.
We equip each couple with a comprehensive package, including pre-filled letters, forms, and personalised instructions to notify the selected companies and government bodies. Our goal is to get our lovely couples as close to the finish line as possible.
ONCE ALL THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTS ARE SUBMITTED, HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO CHANGE A NAME?
Most updates, such as those for NHS records, bank accounts, credit cards, mortgages, utility accounts, savings, insurance, and pensions, are completed within 5-10 working days.
However, passports can take a few weeks to process, although there is a 7-day fast-track service available. The DVLA has experienced significant delays since the pandemic, so we recommend patience in this area.
We strongly advise couples to obtain 2-4 original copies of their marriage certificate (each, if both are changing names) to allow multiple name-change requests to be processed simultaneously.
IS THERE A TIME LIMIT ON WHEN A NEWLYWED CAN CHANGE THEIR NAME?
Not at all! There is no legal obligation to change your name immediately after marriage.
CAN COUPLES CHANGE THEIR NAME BEFORE THE WEDDING TO USE THEIR NEW NAME ON HONEYMOON AND PASSPORTS?
